Bertrand Arthur William Russell,18 May 1872–2 February 1970) was a British philosopher, logician, mathematician, historian, writer, social critic and political activist. At various points in his life he considered himself a liberal, a socialist, and a pacifist. In the early 20th century, Russell led the British "revolt against idealism".He is considered one of the founders of analytic philosophy along with his predecessor Gottlob Frege, colleague G. E. Moore, and his protégé Ludwig Wittgenstein. He is widely held to be one of the 20th century's premier logicians. With A. N. Whitehead he wrote Principia Mathematica, an attempt to create a logical basis for mathematics. His philosophical essay "On Denoting" has been considered a "paradigm of philosophy". His work has had a considerable influence on logic, mathematics, set theory, linguistics, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, and philosophy, especially the philosophy of language, epistemology, and metaphysics.

Well written and he's always great for removing himself for the overly simple left/right, capitalism/communism divide. Some of what he argues here is relevant today. You won't succeed in controlling mankind if you seek to make us timid and obedient, the reaction to that will always show how foolish a venture it is. I worry that nowadays with the level of regulation, pc rules, and state intervention we are teaching our young people to ignore their creative drives, and as it is suppressed it becomes a loaded spring that can just as easily lead to destruction, when the inevitable happens and the volcano erupts.Product details

Authority and the Individual eBook Bertrand Russell Reviews
I would recommend this book to somebody who wants to broaden their intellectual horizons and possibly here a well reasoned argument that would expand their political ideology.
The audio from the first two of these six lectures can be found online, and with a lot of searching I was able to find the third one, but the remaining lectures were nowhere to be found. Luckily there are still a few copies of the lectures in book form floating around at some libraries and on .
The book is less than 100 pages in length, and it's an easy read. Nevertheless, these are some of the best and most important lectures on human society that I know of, and I would highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in these topics.
Russell always one of the best combining logic, reason, and moral persuasion without religion.
I found amazing and helpful quotes out of this book. I think he gets it very wrong with regards to his affinity to Christianity. But beyond that there's wisdom contained here.
This book is a series of thought provoking BBC broadcasts by one of the pre eminent philosophers of the 20th century. Both right and left leaning individuals will have much to contemplate in perusing this work.
It is full of typos that seem to have come from the use of OCR. Would be great if these could be corrected.
As usual, Russell explains concepts clearly, without dogma yet with much prescience. A short yet very enjoyable book. Highly recommended
